Location Categories

Location categories are designed to group locations by machine type.  This can be used as an alternative routing of operations to specific locations.

The way this is designed, Location categories can be connected to Operation categories.

The idea behind this is the possibility to route a specific operation category to a certain or several location categories.

This means all locations within a location category are able to do all the operations under the connected operation categories.

For example - by grouping all the locations where there are lockstitch machines in a category called Lockstitch. It is then possible to connect this category to any operation categories that can done with this type of machine. This only works if there is no other location routing within the operation.

Within the Manage>Locations>Location Categories we can create new location categories

In this example we have created a category for lockstitch machines.

This category can then be assigned a single or multiple operation categories using a sort of tag system.

This will also work the other way around: connecting a location category with an operation category will show in both menus.

We have now connected these two categories.

In the locations menu we can then assign a location a category. What this does is that every time an operation within the Lockstitch operation category is available in the BOL that this location scans into, this operation is available.

The routing is designed to be flexible in the way that a certain machine group can be used to do several different categories of operations.

In the scenario below. All three of our lockstitch machines can perform all three operations within the lockstitch operations category.

However we can also connect them to be able to do lockstitch operations 2.

Or we can think of it the other way around, where we want our two different lockstitch machine categories to both be able to perform the lockstitch operations category.

In this way the routing becomes very flexible while in the same way maintaining a logical categorization of machines and operations.
